About Golden Triangle Motel
In the late 1950's, Tom and Marie Phillips along with Bert and Lois McCoy decided to leave the suburbs of Pittsburgh and come to Erie to start a business. The partnership decided that a motel near the airport and beaches of Presque Isle would be a good business venture. They knew that people in the Pittsburgh area loved to come to Erie and go to the beaches. So, along with their sons, Tom Phillips, Jr and Mahlon McCoy, construction started. They didn’t have the start up money necessary to have contractors build the structure, so on weekends, everyone came to Erie to work on what is now the Golden Triangle Motel.
As time has passed, the original partners (Tom, Marie, Bert and Lois) have gone to the great motel in the sky. The business was purchased from the original partnership in 1996 by Tom, Jr and his wife Donna. In 2009, Tom passed and Donna passed away in 2015 leaving their daughter to operate the business as the 3rd generation of Phillips’, Gayle Phillips-Smith and Tammy Sanfilippo.
When we were growing up, we worked our way up through the business from cleaning rooms to running the office. We are very proud of what our ancestors have done and we are committed to making your stay enjoyable. We know the value of a dollar and therefore offer comfortable and clean accommodations for a very affordable price. Improvements have been made to the structure over the years, but our commitment to quality remains.
